| Sometimes I'm in the mood for party rock, but find that my favorites from the old days bring out a sense of melancholy I wasn't intending. It's getting on to forty years since that music's heyday, after all. This is where these postapocalyptic glam terrorists from Norway come in. They've learned well from the masters, but have their own brand of sci-fi sleaze that reminds me a bit of Zodiac Mindwarp. That cinematic angle is less pronounced on this disc, though it still has an intro and outro and a song set in 2049. Otherwise, it's classic late-'80's hair-metal, with gigantic production, flashy but never fussy guitars and strong hooks. Vocals are fine, if a bit nondescript, on the lower side (not shrieky at all in other words). Highlights for me are "Dynamite Playboys," "Tonight Belongs To Us," "You Better Believe It," "Last Call" and the title track. Even the ballad is decent. This is fun shit all the way around. | |
