CD: Barakade - Volume I
From: plastic sheet Date: March 24, 2026 at 8:44
This album is packed with highlights and is a seriously underrated melodic rock record. Out of its 12 tracks, at least 7 are extremely melodic.

CD: Stone Fury - Burns Like a Star

Another gem frozen in time!

CD: Grand - Second to None
From: Swazi Date: March 20, 2026 at 17:06
After a fantastic debut album this one really is quite uninspiring and boring. Sorry to say … 🤷‍♂️

CD: Spys - Spys
From: masmusic Date: March 20, 2026 at 10:40
I play this in a regular rotation in my CD Player. This gets better everytime I hear it! The best AOR release of 1982! and the Rock Candy remaster really does it justice. If you have never had the pleasure of hearing this I suggest you do! You will love it as much as I do! 100%

CD: A-Z - A2Z2
From: masmusic Date: March 20, 2026 at 10:32
Gave it a listen to! Never liked it! The vocalist was terrible! He really strains his voice! If they went with someone who could actual sing, they would most likely be a good band!

CD: Gastem - Do It Like Wild
From: TheMetalChurch Date: March 19, 2026 at 12:56
Originally released in 1986

CD: Steve Porcaro - The Very Day
From: aTomiK Date: March 19, 2026 at 12:23
Easily one of the best albums released this year (at least my cd says 2026). The Very Day just oozes class and what a group of players! Thank you Steve!

CD: Cry of Love - Brother
From: Doghouse Reilly Date: March 19, 2026 at 6:17
Is "Broken Toy" one of the bonus tracks? I have a live version of that from a show in Boston in early '94, and would love to hear a studio version.

CD: Darby Mills Project - Live
From: 123charpenay Date: March 18, 2026 at 13:15
very great live with a perfect sound.ok tracks 7.10.11 and 12 are very very average.ok the crowd is very thin.this live was recorded in a bar?in a loundge?Darby mills never speak(only three words at the end)to her fans.it s strange.the twelve others songs are really excellent, with some brilliant covers.i recommand the bad reputation s reissue!!!!!!!!!!!!

CD: Darby Mills Project - Flying Solo
From: 123charpenay Date: March 18, 2026 at 13:10
i ve buying yesterday ,at a very decent price 15,99 euro, at fnac lyon bellecour the superb reissue flying solo /live from the french label bad reputation.congratulations to éric coubard.never look back is now flying solo.it s an excellent female fronted record with a super singer, some talented musicians and a very good production.the bonus track have absoluty no interest cause it s an a capella song.i can add that all the fnac in france have all the bad reputation and all the frontiers s realise.it s a good thing when these cd s are not in japan import.

CD: Cry of Love - Brother
From: masmusic Date: March 18, 2026 at 8:45
Just downloaded the French Reissue with 5 bonus tracks! Ill post later how it sounds to the original!

CD: A-Z - A2Z2
From: Ydol eM Date: March 17, 2026 at 12:21
I regard Mark Zonder, along with Mike Mangini, as one of the most technical drummers in the hard and heavy scene. However, this album isn't as complex as the last Fates Warning's albums, but on the other hand, I've found it more melodic. Good progressive metal, perhaps, not only for fans of DREAM THEATER, DGM, ...and FATES WARNING, unfortunately still on hiatus - but every little bit helps. 80/100.

CD: Cry of Love - Diamonds and Debris
From: Doghouse Reilly Date: March 17, 2026 at 11:02
… centerpiece "Sunday Morning Flood." Other highlights for me include "Empty Castle," "Fire In The Dry Grass," "Georgia Pine" and the title track. But like I say, it's the kind of album you enjoy as a whole, on a sunny summer afternoon. A really wonderful album that was sadly forgotten pretty quickly after it was released. Anybody who likes blues-drenched classic rock of a '70's bent needs to hear it.

CD: Cry of Love - Diamonds and Debris
From: Doghouse Reilly Date: March 17, 2026 at 10:56
As I recall, all the singles off Brother got a lot of radio airplay, but I'm not sure how well that ttranslated to sales. It was a full four years before the second album came out, so lots of people probably forgot about Cry Of Love by then. Too bad. It's uncanny how well Robert Mason integrates himself into the band. He sounds like he'd been there all along, and his more powerful pipes counteract some of the whiny quality of Kelly Holland (in the studio at least—I have some bootlegs from '94 and Kelly sounded great live). "Sugarcane" was the only single, and got some spins in the summer of '97, but nothing like how often you heard "Peace Pipe" or "Bad Thing." It's a good, catchy song, but in general, Diamonds & Debris is less of a "singles" album. It's more one of those discs that you put on with a tall drink or a joint and just let the guitar jams flow and pull you along. And there are jams aplenty, with heavier overdrive but somehow even bluesier than the debut, particularly on the

CD: Asia - Live In England
From: masmusic Date: March 16, 2026 at 10:19
Only Geoff Downes remains of the original Asia. More now like an Asia cover or tribute band!

CD: IT'sALIE - Wild Game
From: masmusic Date: March 9, 2026 at 8:09
IT'sALIE Never listened to this band before and was never really a fan of female fronted groups, Unless it was Heart! But Im totally on board with IT'sALIE! This release is very good! It really rocks! Very good production and a really nice flow to the album. The track One Way To Rock is a cover of Sammy Hagar. Now I have to look up their other releases and see if they are just as good as this one!

CD: Stormwave - Deadly Trace

CD: Shooting Star - Silent Scream
From: AOR1 Date: March 8, 2026 at 14:30
A timeless classic, close to perfect. Melodic rock at it's best.

CD: Wildness - Avenger
From: Ydol eM Date: March 8, 2026 at 5:50
Wildness can be considered as another piece in the puzzle of the New wave of Scandi heavy rock. However, there are more distinct inspirations by "older" European bands of arena hard rock like TALISMAN or PINK CREAM 69 than, e.g. H.E.A.T. or ECLIPSE have (IMO)... Perhaps not pure Swedish steel, but a very dependable alloy that won't disappoint you if you prefer lighter and more diverse materials. 85/100.

CD: Temple Balls - Temple Balls

CD: Transatlantic Radio - Midnight Transmission
From: liebig Date: March 6, 2026 at 14:47

CD: Crown Lands - Fearless
From: masmusic Date: March 6, 2026 at 12:12
No comments on this yet? Well when I first listened to the opening track I thought I was listening to a lost recording of Rush! I had to look at the album cover, Yep its Crown Lands - Fearless! Crown Lands is a very good band! The singer could be Geddy Lee's son! You can hear sounds of Rush in the music, Every fan of Hard Prog Rock should own this!

CD: Broken Teeth - Bulldozer
From: Doghouse Reilly Date: March 4, 2026 at 7:46
It's too bad this is just an EP, and padded with two covers. The five originals are all great. "Red River Rising" and "The Rough And The Tumble" are two of my favorite Broken Teeth songs ever.

CD: Silent Witness - Silent Witness
From: plastic sheet Date: March 3, 2026 at 8:02
All killer, no filler

CD: Keys - Infinity Parabellum
From: masmusic Date: March 2, 2026 at 13:13
I finally got to give this disc a spin. I have never heard any of their previous releases so I did not expect what is was going to sound like. Well the disc starts off pretty melodic but from there is all over the map. This is more of a Prog Rock Hard Rock release! Its melodic in some places and then all of a sudden WHOW! in your face! Track 5 Eruptions is a cover from Van Halens firtst release and used on this release as the intro into the track Flamethrower! This is the hardest track on the disc, and does not disappoint! Mark Mangold has never released a bad record and with this release is no exception! 9/10

CD: Def Leppard - Viva! Hysteria
From: hair metal again Date: March 2, 2026 at 6:32

Massive , mainstream, hard rocking this band has it all and i m still a die hard fan since the day i bought the official cassette back in the day.Viva Hysteria

CD: Eden's Curse - Retribution: The Final Judgement
From: Micke_D Date: March 1, 2026 at 14:27
Michael Eden lead & backing vocals, where are you today? Get back to music, we miss your voice and passionate amazing lyrics. Dare to be Different, indeed. ✝

CD: Eden's Curse - Trinity
From: Micke_D Date: March 1, 2026 at 13:59
One of the best lyrics that really got to me: I wasn't born to follow I'm never hanging with the in crowd All their minds are hollow Dare to be different Some ain't born to wonder I'm not walking with the in crowd Their mindless words just thunder (communist radicals of hell..) Dare to be different Inspired from: "Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it."

CD: Eden's Curse - The Second Coming
From: Micke_D Date: March 1, 2026 at 13:53
Man Against the World - one of the best slow/feeling songs ever, amazing vocals. Sound is impeccable; perfect mix, can be Ward's best. This was the best lineup the band ever had, still listen to it regularly, hardly any filler.

CD: Dirty Shirley - Dirty Shirley
From: eternal-champion Date: February 28, 2026 at 16:02
Cover is variation of Grant Wood painting "American Gothic" (1930)

CD: The New Roses - Attracted to Danger
From: Ydol eM Date: February 28, 2026 at 6:50
Relatively young guns, pardon, the New Roses, musically and lyrically, didn't reinvent the wheel, but they deserve credit for bringing juicy, melodic, groove-driven hard rock. In some other reviews (not on this side), they are compared mainly with the American scene, e.g. Bon Jovi or Bryan Adams, but I can see them closer to European shores, actually, right in the centre of Europe, represented by bands like GOTTHARD, SHAKRA, or KISSIN' DYNAMITE... Music worth being attracted to. 80/100.

CD: Jerusalem Slim - Jerusalem Slim
From: CC Date: February 28, 2026 at 5:30
I bought this when it came out purely on the basis of Michael and Steve being involved without ever hearing anything from it. Of course there was a bunch of controversy around it with Steve leaving before it was even released and going to Vince Neil, and Michael even said that this was the second band of his that Vince killed. Now I know Michael has made his peace with Vince since and holds no ill will, but this album he still seems to not care for which is probably why no songs made the Best of album from 9 years ago. Overall I love this album. Certainly has a similar sound to Not Fakin It, and Steve is all over the album with his signature sound. Rock n roll degeneration is a great track, as are Scum lives on (later featured on Demolition 23's sole album) and the cover of Teenage nervous breakdown. But not a bad song on the album.

CD: Stryper - Against the Law
From: Hofmann Date: February 27, 2026 at 17:13
Just loved reading some of the last comments before mine here, good info, clever guys it seems, well written too. Yes Tom Werman with DeLena, what a marvellous sound. And who can blame them for making an album that was not yellow and black, since they were criticized from all sides, just like Jesus (by a cowardly, screaming horde of turncoats, much like the extreme left last decades). Songs are good nevertheless, most of them, and after two platinum albums, finally Tim Gaines was allowed to record bass on the albums again. Exception only the cover tune.

CD: Stryper - No More Hell to Pay
From: Hofmann Date: February 27, 2026 at 17:06
Revelation and the Title track are soo good, overall fantastic album. †

CD: Stryper - The Greatest Gift of All
From: Hofmann Date: February 27, 2026 at 17:01
✝✝✝✝✝✝ Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee. Revelation 20:10 King James Version (KJV 1900) And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night forever and forever. Note: false prophets are in many places during these end times, so keep eyes and ears open, says the Lord. Isaiah 53:5 - But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his stripes we are healed. "Salvation Through Redemption Yielding Peace, Encouragement and Righteousness" ✝✝✝✝✝✝

CD: White Heart - Power House
From: Hofmann Date: February 27, 2026 at 16:53
Independence Day and Powerhouse are probably the best two tracks they ever recorded, just perfect. Not as consistent overall, but still good album, great great sound. Awesome message ✝

CD: Whitecross - Hammer and Nail
From: Hofmann Date: February 27, 2026 at 16:50
drewman202 - you said it so very nicely. I kinda like the sappy ballad, but the rockers are better agreed. Band happened to have a singer, which is rare, that sounds rather similar to Stephen Pearcy and they were mocked for it sadly. Scott has a cool rock voice and shredder Rex is amazing. They could have used an outside input for improving some choruses, but still a great album and they worked for our Lord, what can be better. Rex is still playing btw.

CD: Petra - Hope
From: Hofmann Date: February 27, 2026 at 16:41
John Schlitt lead vocals is 76 !! now, and can still sing very well, mighty impressive. But mostly, I was happily surprised that the songs are so strong, and some very guitar/riff heavy rockers too, still gas in their tank!! Get right with Christ, times are changing, for all to see.

CD: Petra - Beyond Belief
From: Hofmann Date: February 27, 2026 at 16:38
It finally sold gold, but should have been triple platinum if you ask me. It had SEVEN good singles+videos, all songs fantastic, two splendid ballads with amazing performances by John Schlitt and it rocks just as good as many other rock/hardrock albums from this great year 1990. But they were/still are Christian, and the biz is not Christian (mostly satanic), so there you go. Was so happy hearing their new HOPE (2026), John can still sing, good songs, just LOVELY band. May we soon have a second coming, cause the digital gulag is way too close and times are dark and then some. So HOPE is perfect title and this is still one of the best albums of the 80/90s era. All songs on Beyond Belief are superb, great sound too. Creed (awesome holy lyrics of the way and the truth and the life) is a song that gives you goosebumps, that's how good it is. Love Petra!

CD: 38 Special - Bone Against Steel
From: Hofmann Date: February 27, 2026 at 16:17
After listening to this CD now for several days, really giving it a chance. I think it is MUCH better than it got reviews for back in the day. First single was successful, The Sound of Your Voice and it was planned to try to make a big second single with Signs of Love, but two major issues arose. 1.) changing times (Nirvana etc), 2.) Charisma did not market the album at all/very lazy, so it did not stand a chance. Max left soon after, then Don came back. Rest is history. BUT I find this album very enjoyable, sound is brilliant (excellent modern sounding analogue drums for example) and all songs are fine. How 'bout very cool story-telling rocker with Donnie at the mic, Jimmy Gillum (perfect southern tune), You Be the Dam I'll Be The Water and Treasure are fine ballads by golden voice Max Carl, and one of the best songs ever with Donnie, and third single (however without video or marketing) Rebel to Rebel is a superb song with catchy hook (about legendary brother Ronnie).

CD: 38 Special - Rock and Roll Strategy
From: Hofmann Date: February 27, 2026 at 16:07
Yeah Simon, Max was an amazing singer too and I cannot really find any fillers. I can listen to the whole album, Max melodic songs, but also the fun tracks sung by Donnie. With a smash hit, Second Chance, and two other good singles in title track (fun cool song, great lyrics), and great AOR number Comin' Down Tonight, this album should have gone gold. BUT it's always hard for bands to lose someone of major importance like Mr Barnes. It does not seem to matter if the album is fantastic, it just won't sell like the albums before. Which is a shame, cause this is a damn fine album.

CD: 38 Special - Flashback
From: Hofmann Date: February 27, 2026 at 16:02
Brilliant taste of mighty southern rockers, where major frontman awesome singer, as well as excellent lead guitar player Don Barnes shines. Plenty hits, and new goodies for the time 87, but you might as well wanna own all the discs.

CD: Karla - Karla
From: Wild Obsession Date: February 27, 2026 at 10:02
Solid female fronted 80's hard rock, vocalist Karla Goldman reminds me of a slightly raspier Lee Aaron. Musicianship is top notch, both the guitar and bass add a lot of nice details and riffs, and the production is solid. What the album lacks is songwriting, while there are no "bad" songs, IMO, there is nothing that stands out aside from the power balled "Never Say No". Not an essential album, but worth picking for $10+/-.

CD: Shadow Page Band - Hanging By A Thread

Its just rock....

CD: Subway - Taste The Difference
From: masmusic Date: February 26, 2026 at 13:20
I thought this band was from Germany? Why all the reference to Switzerland?

CD: Jerusalem - Escalator
From: masmusic Date: February 26, 2026 at 12:18
This is very good hard rock album! Adding Geoff Downes on keys really makes this rock. he plays some really in your face Hammand B3. Some tracks have been taken from the first release and redone, they sound much better. This band plays and sounds like they are still in the 70s!

CD: Dare - Sacred Ground
From: Roxas Date: February 26, 2026 at 10:55
Forgot to add Every Time We Say Goodbye is one Dare's most moving ballads. It covers death and loss in such a beautiful way.

CD: Dirty Blonde - Passion
From: Doghouse Reilly Date: February 26, 2026 at 10:09
... listening to this as a sober adult in 2026, songs like "Ladies In Mercedes" are just plain dumb. File along with Beau Nasty as bands that never should have been signed to a major label.

CD: Dirty Blonde - Passion
From: Doghouse Reilly Date: February 26, 2026 at 10:06
This album was reissued in 2023 by something called Kez Sez Records, with many bonus tracks, including instrumentals and outtakes, plus a few live tracks of varying quality. There's also three radio interviews from 1989, as the band made the rounds of all the rock stations in Houston, TX. These interviews are entertaining for their snapshot-of-the-times quality if nothing else, complete with the band literally begging people to request the "Passion" video on Dial MTV (it didn't work). As for the album itself? Look, the guys are all competent musicians at the very least (I doubt Ray Riendeau emphasizes his time in Dirty Blonde on his resume though), but especially when the market was glutted with bands like this, it really does come down to the songs. And these songs are shit. Lots of those hanging-chord verses, generic riffs, and the singer squealing and yowling and offering some of the most banal lyrics and melodies you can imagine. This is good enough for a club full of drunks, but l

CD: Best of 2025 - Best of 2025

Love that you have Mammoth WVH, Dorothy and Triumph Tributes albums listed. My favorites from last year.

CD: Gotthard - Stereo Crush
From: Wild Obsession Date: February 23, 2026 at 15:26
I don't own all the Gotthard albums, and I know this might be "blasphemy" on this site, but I will take any of the Gotthard/Maeder albums over the 1st 3 Gotthard/Lee albums. IMO, the songwriting is stronger since Maeder has joined.

CD: Michael Monroe - Outerstellar
From: CC Date: February 23, 2026 at 11:15
Another great album from Mr Monroe. Pretty much exactly what you would expect from him. Doesn't try to reinvent the wheel, just puts out straight up catchy rock music. I do like the fact that he references a couple of his older albums in Rockin Horse when he name checks them. Always liked Hanoi Rocks, but always preferred his solo output.

CD: Tsar - Tsar
From: hair metal again Date: February 23, 2026 at 11:08
excellent hard rock music for TSAR back in 95 offering a fine indie with great vocals and guitars and songs that will satisfy all fans like "loser " or "slow down"!the closest comparison would be QUIET RIOT maybe but you should hear it yourself if ya find it

CD: Austen Starr - I Am The Enemy
From: CC Date: February 22, 2026 at 17:40
When Frontiers put out their press release about Austen, they compared her to two bands, The Warning and Halestorm which is misleading. Yes they are bands with female singers, but musically they are totally different. Obviously as Halestorm are a well established band with a big fanbase and The Warning is one of the more prominent rock bands right now, so Frontiers was obviously trying to piggy back on their successes. Austen to me has more of a heavier pop punk sound to her, think Avril Lavigne with the guitars cranked up. Now as someone who likes a variety of musical styles I gave this album a chance and overall it is a decent album. Not amazing, but there are some really catchy songs on it. I will say a couple of songs don't suit her vocal style, but overall I enjoyed the album. It's not ground breaking, but what it does it does well. Just don't believe you are going to hear a Halestorm or Warning style album.

Mature, well-done, but a bit bland pop rock with soft bluesy aftertaste. JOE COCKER alike (IMO). No delicacy, but a good standard from the daily menu. 70/100.

CD: Subway - Turn Back the Time
From: masmusic Date: February 21, 2026 at 9:46
I had never before heard of this band Subway, so I checked their back catalogue and read all the positive comments so I decided to give this new relase a listen too! I certainly was not disappointed! This release is a gem from the beginning to the end! Not one bad track! The disc opens with the first two more hard tracks than the next two it goes into MR than more upbeat tracks. The production is great, song writing top notch and musicianship over the hill. I could not find one bad or negative thing to say about this release. 100% Now I have the difficult task of locating their other releases! This band has their own itentity but if I had to compare them to another group it would be TREAT!

CD: Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak
From: Doghouse Reilly Date: February 20, 2026 at 9:27
I must agree with the general consensus here: Jailbreak is Thin Lizzy's best album. Of course, it contains the band's one and a half American hits, along with all-time fan favorites like "Cowboy Song" and "Emerald." BYou also get awesome deep cuts like "Warriors." I even love the dusky ballad "Fight Or Fall," often dismissed by many fans, and "Running Back To You," which the band themselves weren't fond of. And "The Boys Are Back In Town" is just one of the most joyous-sounding songs you can name. Its original lyrics were less than celebratory, and more about how war turns boys into men and not always for the better.

CD: Thin Lizzy - Black Rose
From: Doghouse Reilly Date: February 20, 2026 at 9:10
This album has an immediately tougher sound than Bad Reputation. Phil Lynott's bass sound is definitely at its most muscular and rumbling, yet Lizzy's ever-present soulfulness and sense of swing stop me short of using the word "heavy." The best songs for me are everybody's favorites: "Do Anything You Want To," "Waiting For An Alibi" and the epic almost-title track, but I also really love "Toughest Street In Town" and "Got To Give It Up." The only song I don't care for is "Sarah," and yet when I hear the opening melody, it's so easy to imagine it on the record player in a child's '70's bedroom.

CD: Thin Lizzy - Bad Reputation
From: Doghouse Reilly Date: February 20, 2026 at 9:00
Pretty diverse album for Thin Lizzy, with heavy rockers like "Killer Without A Cause," "Soldier Of Fortune" and especially the title track (a drumming masterclass!) up against the jaunty, sax-laced R&B of "Dancing In The Moonlight. The production has such a warm sound, and Phil Lynott's vocals and lyrics have an inescapable melancholy, and both of these factors keep me from declaring Bad Reputation "Lizzy's heaviest album" (as some have). But it's still one of their absolute best, and there's not a song I don't like here. The final third really shifts into a hushed, late-night feel that's very somber and striking, and Scott Gorham has some gorgeous solos on songs like "Downtown Sundown" and "That Woman's Gonna Break Your Heart."

A few honorable mentions: I remember listening to the latest from Cradle Of Filth a lot when it first came out, but as the year progressed, it slipped off the radar. Also, the new one from Coroner is extremely good. And Blood Red Throne released a good one very late in the year as well. Looking ahead to 2026, we already got cool new albums from Bullet, Kreator and a couple others, but are coming up on a six-week run of new releases that I'm looking forward to. Starting on March 6, we get new albums from: Temple Of Void, Lamb Of God, Exodus, Black Label Society, Corrosion of Conformity and Immolation.

From: CC Date: February 14, 2026 at 23:18
This album was one of my big surprises last year. I picked it up on a whim due to liking Danger on the loose, but did not expect much more than a nice album due to not generally being a massive fan of AOR style hard rock. Much like Fans Of The Dark the year before, the album just hooked me right from the off with some catchy as hell tunes. Not as lightweight as I was expecting, but really is a great throwback to the 80s without sounding dated. Easily ended up in my 2025 top 10, beating more established bands who I expected more from. Hopefully this is not a one and done project and we get a follow up in a year or two.

Not being a fan of live recordings as I always found them to be poorly recorded and the production not up to par. Then I found a copy of DP-Made in Japan The (Steven Wilson 2025 Remix)-24BIT-96KHZ. Well this changed my mind in a hurry. I have never heard any live recording sound better than this! Wilson works his magic on the remixes. Pick up a copy and hear it for yourself! 100/100

CD: Sweet and Lynch - Heart and Sacrifice
From: CC Date: February 13, 2026 at 14:37
I quite liked the first album, but since then Sweet has been involved in so many projects and I got to the point I essentially had Sweet burnout, so either did not know or totally forgot they released a third album. Overall this suffers with the same problem as they bulk of his output the last maybe 8 to 10 years. Lack of decent hooks, and vocals that are barely understandable. For most of the time he could be singing in a foreign language for all I know. Musically it's all pretty cool stuff, but just lacks hooks. Still not as bad as Sunbomb though.

Like some others, I'm having trouble ranking last year's releases, so I'm just going to list the ones I enjoyed the most in alphabetical order by band. Bangalore Choir: Rapid Fire; Green Carnation: A Dark Poem Part 1; H.E.A.T.: Welcome To The Future; Harem Scarem: Chasing Euphoria; The Haunted: Songs Of Last Resort; Hooded Menace: Lachrymose Monuments Of Obscuration; Lamp Of Murmur: The Dreaming Prince In Ecstasy; Love/Hate: Punk Rock Fiesta; Novembers Doom: Major Arcana; Paradise Lost: Ascension (probably my favorite overall); Revocation: New Gods, New Masters ... I think that might be eleven, oh well. Biggest disappointments: L.A. Guns: Leopard Skin (just didn't care for it at all) and Ghost: Skeleta (a few really good songs, but I don't like the turn toward Night Flight Orchestra pop-rock).

The cover to this album is actually the cover of a 1964 book that Billy Idol's mum owned, and was the inspiration for the name of the band. I agree with some of the comments made about this album; it lacks the passion of the first two albums, and a drummer is sorely missed instead of a drum machine. Even so, I think this is a good AOR album. The problem with this record is that it was released under the name HEARTLAND; perhaps a different name would have been a better choice. If you like POKERFACE and THE DISTANCE, you'll like it.

Not surprised Ghost got so much love, but surprised The Switch not even mentioned. Generally not the type of rock that graces my top 10, but that album kinda blew me away. Maybe because my expectations were not high in the first place, but even so, the album was fantastic. As for the Smiths/YB collab, if you liked that Mike, you really should give Idols a go. Another one I expected nothing from and bought on a whim, then totally fell in love with the album and made me a fan of his (although his early stuff is hit or miss)

CD: Mind Bomb - Mind Bomb
From: Doghouse Reilly Date: February 3, 2026 at 11:20
I heard these guys on MetalShop (an American syndicated radio show, for our international friends) sometime in 1993. They featured several bands around the same time with the word 'mind' in their name in the Fresh Metal segment (i.e. Mind Funk, Mind Over Four, Strip Mind), and they all sounded kinda similar. As has been noted, Mind Bomb sound like a hair-metal band gone heavy to keep up with the times. The guitars have a very cool, thick tone, and when the riffs lock in with the bass and drums, they really groove, and the singer has more than a trace of leftover sleaze in his voice. The album is dragged down by inconsistent songs, but highlights include 'I Am,' 'Daisy Chain,' '40 Days,' 'No Reason' and especially 'Do You Need Some?' The ballads 'Almost There' and 'Goodbye Everything' are pretty bad though, and some other songs just drone along. At their best, Mind Bomb show you another way metal could have gone in the early '90's.

hi! i apologize for not using the message board for this, as the link to the corrections page is dead, but i have reason to believe this has a catalog number. for context, i'm currently looking for as much information on this band as possible, as i have a copy of this album on CD, and want to archive as much of it as possible. looking on the side of the front lid (https://iili.io/fLN3mIj.jpg -- sorry for poor image quality, no access to a scanner atm), it has the band name, album name, and what i can only assume to be a catalog number (mine is VJ971, however i would like to cross-refrence this with another owner of this cd). if you have any questions or rebuttals, please ask or tell me, and i will respond when i get the chance! to whoever's reading this, thank you for helping maintain an incredibly helpful archival site. have a good day!!!

I had not bought a COT album since Breakthrough came out because I had slowed down on buying CDs for a while due to various reasons, so when I restarted buying again a whole new buncha bands had come along and caught my attention, and I kinda forgot about COT. In the last couple of years I have been going back and completing discographies by various artists, and suddenly it hit me that I needed to do that with COT. Thankfully they did not release that many albums since Breakthrough, but I was debating whether to pick this up or not due to only two songs on it being non album track, but then I saw it going for pretty much half of what most people were charging. Honest to god, this has to be one of the best compilation albums out there purely because of how much of their music it covers. It got me remembering how good the debut was and the Raw thorns CD as well. Absolutely worth every penny.

CD: Gary Moore - Run for Cover
From: Doghouse Reilly Date: January 28, 2026 at 9:47
Another hard-rockin' album by Gary Moore's standards, as he continued to chase American radio success before turning his attention to the blues at the turn of the next decade. The production sounds very 1985, thin and trebly and with lots of reverb and some synthetic-sounding bass and drums, but Gary's guitar manages to shine through. The main attraction is his collaboration with old mate Phil Lynott on 'Out In The Fields,' but other highlights include the title track, 'Military Man' (possibly the heaviest thing here), 'Out Of My System,' the slow grind of 'Nothing To Lose,' and 'All Messed Up.' My favorite, though, is 'Empty Rooms,' just a wonderful ballad. Of course, this appeared on Victims Of The Future just a couple years prior, and I do prefer the SOUND on that version, but I also appreciate that the song itself has been tightened up here, eliminating the long passages where not much is happening and really emphasizing that earworm of a chorus.

CD: Gary Moore - Corridors Of Power
From: Doghouse Reilly Date: January 28, 2026 at 9:05
A great album from the late Gary Moore, this reminds me of same-era Whitesnake. It's very much rooted in the bluesy, British hard-rock of the '70's, but with somewhat updated production. Gary's guitar-playing puts this over the top, but I have to say, he has always seemed a little uncomfortable with really heavy rock. Songs like 'Don't Take Me For A Loser,' 'Cold Hearted' and especially 'End Of The World' boast some pretty heavy riffs and ripping solos, but then Gary starts singing, and somehow it just seems to lessen the impact for me. He seems a lot more at home on ballads like 'Always Gonna Love You,' 'Falling In Love With You' and 'I Can't Wait Until Tomorrow.' 'Rockin' Every Night' is the most energetic track here, but owes an obvious debt to 'Jailhouse Rock.'

... at St. Mary's College, close to home. It was while on tour for this album that they made their way to L.A., where they opened not only for Poison (and got to witness Bret Michaels ripping off Steve's stage persona), but also another young Sunset Strip band called Guns n' Roses.

... they would go on to have a completely different song called 'Ball Baby' on Show Business.) If you're wondering if anything was re-recorded for this new version, yes: Jimmy Chalfant didn't play on 'Lie Like A Rug' and 'Sex' on the original because he had to have shoulder surgery, so Anton Fig was brought into play those songs. Also, he later did with Warrant, Beau Hill got Mike Slamer play the solo on 'Scarlet Fever.' Both Jimmy and Ronnie were # to play their own parts this time around. But it makes me wonder what else was messed with. For example, on the original version of 'Red Hot,' Steve sings 'one hundred degrees'; here, he sings 'two hundred degrees.' Another bit of trivia: the band (or at least Steve) were not happy with the label's choice of 'Cold Shower' as the first single, as they felt it was not very indicative of the album as a whole. And when it didn't take off, Atlantic didn't want to do another single. So the band self-funded a video the title track, shot at a gig a

This remix is less successful than the awesome-sounding version of Blow My Fuse from a couple years previously. It's hard to put my finger on why. Instrumentally, this sounds great, very punchy and loud and less awash in 1985 reverb. It must be the vocals; they're now very upfront in the mix and pretty dry-sounding, which exposes a bit of a shouty quality in place of really strbbg melodies, like on the verses of 'Red Hot (Black 'n Blue).' This version of 'Cold Shower' is particularly disappointing, as it seems to be a hair slower than the original, and there are some cheesy keyboards now much more audible in the breakdown section. Also, 'Cry Baby' is just not a very good song, and having heard the various demo collections and live bootlegs floating around, it's hard to believe 'Cry Baby' was the best they could do. Some more trivia for you, per 'Steve And Rik's Pot-Cast': 'Cry Baby' was originally called 'Ball Baby,' but Atlantic didn't like it, so it had to be rewritten. (Of course, t

Great album by a very talented lineup! Really surprises me that none of the members went on to bigger things. I do wish that a label like Rock Candy would pick this up and give it the royal treatment that it deserves. Retrospect just doesn't do the release justice!

This band fits in indie-minded pop rock with AOR traits. ICEHOUSE, CROWDED HOUSE, DEL AMITRI, or SIMPLE MINDS (of the mid-80s) are in the same set (imo). It's a pity they didn't break through. Perhaps they were too polished for indie fans and less flashy for AOR fans. If you don't mind the intersection I'm describing, you might try it. The good potential without an echo. 75/100.

I finally had a chance to give this a good listen! Well! was I pleasantly surprised! This is a masterpiece and I can't believe I have never heard of this band before. Not one bad track! My only disappointment with it, is that its too short! I'm also surprised that none of the band members went on to bigger things. The vocalist is awesome! Thanks again for the heads up!
